OUTBACK THUNDA

Dear Dennis,

Rocky Mountain Thunder was purchased by Steve and Vic Butler and she ran a few times as Rocky Mountain Thunder and was later repainted using the Lunatic name which suited the driver Steve Butler extremly well, a few years later Lunatic was sold to Clive Fetherby who then transformed it in to Outback Thunder as it still is today.

yours faithfully,

Hey Dennis,

Here is another Aussie Truck

Mark Hurley sent me this pic. It is actually the Bronco's Magic truck repainted. It is called "OUTBACK THUNDA". Enjoy.

 Richard Scott.

Thanks Rich

This is some info about what is going on in Australia. It was sent to  Richard Scott, who passed it on to me.

Rich,

Hope those pictures worked. Here's a few of my own, there not as good because I didn't have the advantage of being infield at the time. But I could have the chance to change all that. The guy who films all the events there, is actually looking for someone to hire, to help him in filming, editing and giving interviews. This could be a good opportunity for me since I've had experience with that sort of thing, but I want to make sure that it doesn't interfere with my studies though.

Anyway, about the show, it probably wasn't entirely as interesting as last years, but the Monster Truck action was a lot better this time round. They weren't working to a 'script' as usual, they more or less freestyled respectively. Another thing that impressed me this year was that none of the trucks broke down. Although it did seem that Outback Thunda bent it's front steering, the driver just welded it straight again.

After the show I got an opportunity to have a chat with the drivers. Driving Outback Thunda was Bill Luther and in Stress Factor was Mike Tuana. Bill was the one who spent four months in the US this year driving for Wildfire Motorsports. I got the privilege to go through his private folder documenting what he had done throughout Australia and the US. I tell you what, I was drooling over the stuff he had in there. I think he was impressed by the fact that I knew so much about the trucks. We got on pretty well and he let me know about a couple of people who might help me in attaining some Australian truck souvenirs. It was good that we got friendly too because earlier he was getting pissed off at all the people trying to get inside his truck.

I also asked him what Steve Butler and Barry Gaunt were up to. Although he hadn't seen Steve in 18 months he said the he was driving trucks now... not monster trucks but freight trucks. Barry Gaunt is not driving either I think.

I almost forgot to enquire about this, but I got round to finding out about that Bob Jane T-mart Truck you found. It turns out you were right... it is the Thrillmaster truck. It seems that the guy who owns it, Clive Featherby, was b---s----ing when he said it was brand new from the United States. But I'm not surprised though... that's not the first time he's b-s-ed about his trucks.

If Bill wasn't kind enough, Mike let me in to the drivers seat of Stress Factor... a dream come true. But that's not all... by the time we finished talking, he had offered to give me a ride in his truck next time he comes to put on a show. I'm not keeping my hopes up though, since it had been 18 months since he last performed here.

He also let me know that he has already gathered parts to begin building his second monster truck. He hasn't decided yet but he plans to use a PT Cruiser body. He has decided though that he's building a longer wheelbase truck this time. Stress Factor will be given to his son... lucky bastard lol.

Mike also told me that Sam has stopped building his next truck. Furthermore he told me to keep in contact with Sam as a dvd and video featuring Sampson, Stress Factor and Tropical Thunder will be released soon.

I asked both of them if there are any new trucks in Australia at the moment and sadly their answer was no.

Anyway, hope you and your family had a great Christmas because mine was great too... Plus I wish you all the best in the New Year.

 Thanks for keeping in contact,

 MARK HURLEY.

Thanks Mark, and Rich.
